Feel free to share with us a cool program you have experienced, including an internship or language school, or what you have been able to achieve through learning an Asian language and living in Asia. Maybe you’ve taught English in Seoul, starred on Chinese TV or received a scholarship to study in Jakarta.

Then tell us about your experience but also what tips and other important information you wish you knew before you set sail to Asia.

Articles on Asia Options are typically 700-1,000 words long and subheadings are preferable. Please also add 1-2 JPEG photos to accompany your article, as well as 3-4 line bio and profile picture. Podcasts and video blogs are also welcome!

Country Correspondent Roles

Job Description

AO is always glad for an excellent team player to join our volunteer team and help continue the growth of given country section of the website. The Country Correspondents (China, India, Indonesia, Japan and Korea) will work with the AO team to contribute articles and language program reviews and help maintain the country section of the website, ensuring it delivers the best advice to readers.

We are looking for someone who can provide context, contacts and information on working, studying and leading in the target country to build interesting and creative content. The candidate will have direct experience in the region and can provide up-to-date information on initiatives, programs and opportunities.

Podcast Specialist

The Asia Options Podcast is a new project designed to further its efforts to engage and raise the profile of young voices on study, volunteer and professional opportunities in Asia (starting with a focus on China).

The aim is to create a platform from which to share study, volunteer and professional opportunities in Asia and to promote different perspectives and experiences of students and young professionals. We will interview a range of individuals, such as exchange/international students, student and professional volunteers, young professionals, scholarship candidates and travel vloggers. Additionally, the podcast will provide listeners a clearer understanding of Asia Options, the people who volunteer at Asia Options and the opportunities we seek to generate for young Asia-engaged Australians and the organisations they come from.

The Podcast Producer should be personable and possess an ability to build rapport with interviewees in both online and offline settings. They should also possess the ability to work within a small team and to source interviewees among a broad network of stakeholders. The producer will also be responsible for working with Asia Options’ country correspondents (starting with the China contents team) to edit and produce biweekly/fortnightly podcasts. 

All roles at Asia Options are currently on a volunteer basis.  

Desirable candidate qualities

  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience in audio editing and production
  • Previously travelled to Asia (China travel experience highly desirable)
  • Well-established network in the China-Australia/ Australia-Asia space
  • Ability to devise timelines and meet deadlines
  • Chinese/ Asian studies background
  • Proficient in written and spoken English

Key Responsibilities

  • Source interviewees
  • Identify appropriate podcast and audio content production platforms
  • Plan and coordinate interview schedules with guests
  • Work with country correspondents to plan episode structure and themes
  • Work with country correspondents to edit and produce episodes
  • Post episodes on website and socials, promoting to wider audience
  • Manage podcast workflow within Asia Options team
  • Can commit to the position for the next 6 – 12 months (desirable)
